Eikendal
is located in the renowned Stellenbosch wine region on the R44 towards Somerset West. It is known for its vineyards and the characteristic shape of its cellar vaults with high cisterns. The vineyards of Eikendal are located in the ‘Golden Triangle’ of viticulture and benefit from a microclimate both in the mountains and by the sea, which is optimal for the production of quality wines. The 76-hectare wine farm has been owned by the Saager family from Zurich, Switzerland, since 1981. The Swiss owners recognised the great potential of the area and did not hesitate for long to modernise the existing vineyards and expand the winery.

Some of the Cape's best wines are produced on the slopes of the Helderberg. Thanks to the cool, moist sea breeze from nearby False Bay and the excellent soil, Eikendal's vineyards are perfect for growing exquisite, classic grape varieties. The influence of the Atlantic Ocean ensures pleasantly cool afternoons and evenings, ideal conditions for the production of high-quality grapes.

Aldert Nieuwoudt
an experienced and innovative winemaker, returned to his roots in the Stellenbosch region when he took over the management of the Eikendal winemaking team in 2022. He spent the last few years as winemaker at Bushmanspad between Bonnievale and Swellendam. Aldert was born and raised in Somerset West and completed his school and university education in Stellenbosch. Aldert started his career in the wine industry at Montagu Cellar and Haskell Wines (together with Rianie Strydom).

Modern viticulture
is combined with traditional winemaking at Eikendal. In the vineyard, it's about producing maximum fruit and structure in the berries with as much concentration as possible - in the cellar, it's about preserving the flavours they have worked so hard for and maintaining freshness, elegance and finesse. With this focus, Eikendal has that modern yet ancient touch that appeals to palates around the world. This is also reflected in its worldwide success.
